A small, thoughtful gesture has turned into a global success.
Lakefield’s Faith Dickinson founded ‘Cuddles for Cancer’ when she was just 9 years old.
The concept originated from hearing that cancer patients get cold during treatment, and so Dickinson decided to begin making fleece blankets to give them warmth, comfort, and love.
The simple yet heartfelt idea has earned international praise and recognition.
To date, over 4,000 blankets have been made and sent to 35 countries around the world.
In 2017, Dickinson established her first ‘Cuddles for Cancer’ drop-in centre for volunteers in Lakefield and it’s a place that is used primarily by students and seniors.
Among her many awards and accomplishments, Dickinson, who is now 16, was named ‘Citizen of the Year’ by the Kawartha Chamber of Commerce in 2014, received the Princess Diana Award for charitable work in 2017 and attended the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle last year.
What exactly does the future hold? Dickinson hopes to continue to grow ‘Cuddles for Cancer’.
Earlier this year, she announced plans to open a branch in the United Kingdom and hopes that is only the beginning.
