Peterborough Police have partnered with County/City Paramedics to create a new Tactical Emergency Medical Support Unit.
The new unit consists of four specially trained paramedics that will be able to provide care to police, victims or others during a high-risk event.
The TACMEDS won’t be armed, but will have the same protective equipment used by tactical police officers with ‘paramedic’ markings. Peterborough County/City Paramedics Deputy Chief Chris Barry says they’re committed to ensuring the best possible outcome in emergency situations, and that the TACMED unit is an excellent way to provide our paramedics with the training they need to work together with law enforcement and provide immediate care in high-risk emergencies.
Peterborough Police Chief Scott Gilbert says the new program will continue to build on an already tremendous relationship between local police and paramedics.
