Tributes continue to pour in following the death of Trent University’s founding president.
Thomas H.B. Symons died on New Year’s Day. He served as the school’s president and vice-chancellor for 11 years until 1972, and was recognized to the Order of Canada in 1976 and Order of Ontario in 2002.
Current president Dr. Leo Groarke says his values remain at the heart of the university he started: in its commitment to the liberal arts and sciences, a university made up of colleges, and the School for the Study of Canada and Indigenous Studies.
In lieu of flowers, the Symons family has asked that donations be made to the T.H.B. Symons Trust for Canadian Studies at Trent.
