One year after his shocking debut, zamboni driver-turned-NHL goalie David Ayres is appearing on Thursday Night Live for the Peterborough Petes.
Ayres says he’s a big fan of OHL hockey, and grew up watching the Petes a lot when he lived in Whitby.
Ayres came in as an emergency backup goalie for the Carolina Hurricanes last February, defeating the Toronto Maple Leafs in the process. He says it’s something he gets asked about a lot.
In the last year, Ayres says he hasn’t played a ton of hockey because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the fact he’s immunocompromised because of a kidney transplant.
