The community is continuing to mourn the death of Murray Whetung.
Whetung died last week at the age of 99. The Second World War veteran was a proud member of Curve Lake First Nation and the grandfather of current Chief Emily Whetung.
Peterborough-Kawartha MPP Dave Smith recently introduced the Murray Whetung Community Service Award at Queen’s Park which would honour First Nation veterans who voluntarily gave years of their lives in service to Canada.
He and his wife had 13 children and more than 50 grandchildren, one of whom is the current Chief, Emily Whetung. He was also an elder with the Indigenous United Church.
