Lakefield was the location of a major high-speed internet funding announcement today by both the federal and provincial governments.
$1.2-billion is being invested to help bring faster internet speeds to rural areas of Ontario. Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland says this is essential, and the pandemic only brought that to the forefront.
Peterborough-Kawartha MPP Dave Smith says this is a project that’s been more than two years in the making working hand-in-hand with the federal government.
Smith adds that high-speed internet is something that affects everyone, whether they’re using it for business, agriculture, or even for personal use. Also on hand at the announcement at Selwyn Library were Peterborough-Kawartha MP Maryam Monsef, Ontario Minister of Infrastructure Kinga Surma, Selwyn Mayor Andy Mitchell and Selwyn Deputy Mayor Sherry Senis.
