Peterborough agencies sound alarm over increasing drug harms

Peterborough County-City Paramedics have responded to a record number of calls for suspected drug poisonings during the first six months of 2021.

The data was released yesterday by Peterborough Drug Strategy partners.

Health Promoter Evan Brockest says paramedics have been called to 244 incidents between January and the end of June.

Partners reaffirmed their commitment to implementing a range of evidence-based strategies required to save lives and support the well-being of people that use drugs.

Chair Emily Jones says to solve this, it takes a very streamlined approach.

As of July 2021, there have been 36 suspected drug-related deaths in Peterborough City and County, according to data from the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario.
