Hospital workers at the PRHC are staging protest against what they are calling premature layoffs.
The union involved says the layoffs have come as the centre prepares to roll out a new patient information system.
A total of 84 layoff notices have been given so far to members of OPSEU/SEFPO Local 345 working in clerical positions at the hospital. The union says the impending staffing cuts will impact every area of the hospital, increasing the workload for many professionals who work alongside clerical staff as a team.
There will be a picket this morning at 11:30 on the North sidewalk on Hospital Drive.
