An individual who’s come to rely on Community Living Trent Highlands for support says the organization has been “way more than helpful” in enabling him to live his best life.
Tony Downer, an adult with intellectual challenges, says he has become involved in many different pursuits since being introduced to Community Living as an 18 year old. He’s gained employment and is currently working at a local Costco Warehouse. For fun, he acts as a streamer on Twitch, a live streaming service that focuses on video game live streaming. He’s especially fond of hockey, playing in the Peterborough-based Electric City Special Needs Hockey league with the Electric City Maroon & White squad.
“I love skating and enjoying the sport. I enjoy playing over watching,” said Downer. “It’s going pretty good with them.”
Downer also prides himself on giving back to the organization that has helped him over the years. He’s currently a board member of Community Living Trent Highlands, which serves the Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton areas.
“For me, it’s a double aspect. I get the help I need and I’m actually helping others because I’m on the board,” said Downer.
I was 18 at the time . Introduced by Edna O’Toole. That’s how I ended up with CL.”
“I actually work at the local COSTCO, A streamer on Twitch. Special needs hockey players. Electric City Maroon and White. I love skating and enjoying the sport. I enjoy playing over watching. It’s going pretty good with them. They’re way more than helpful.”
