Jim and Katie Stewart are the latest recipients of the Scholfield Award of Community Distinction.
The annual honour, first bestowed in 2004 upon philanthropists and community builders Paul and Ida Scholfield, was presented to the couple Tuesday at the Holiday Inn.
In joining a long list of previous recipients, both admitted to being quite surprised.
A former chair of the Canadian Canoe Museum board, Jim played a lead role in stabilizing the museum’s financial position.
Katie, meanwhile, co-founded the museum’s Beaver Club Gala fundraiser and chaired that event for several years. She’s also a past Hospice Peterborough board member.
Past recipients of the award include Cuddles for Cancer’s Faith Dickinson, Survivors Abreast and community activist Roy Brady.
