The Peterborough Petes kicked off their training camp on Tuesday with fitness testing at the Hybrid Athletics Facility. They’ll hit the ice for scrimmages on Wednesday and Thursday, followed by the annual Maroon and White game on Friday afternoon.
Hybrid owner and Petes Strength and Conditioning Coach, Josh Gillam, is looking forward to the season and says it’s an honour to be hosting the players at his gym.
Aside from fitness testing, the day is also an opportunity for players to meet their potential new teammates as well as catch up with teammates that they haven’t seen since last season.
Second year defensemen, Donovan McCoy, is excited to see his teammates and says the day is a good opportunity to help new players get comfortable with the process.
With this being his draft year, he says he’s going to try and keep that at the back of his mind and just do whatever he can to help the team find success this year.
The Petes will have a lot of returning players on the roster but they also have a great crop of young talent to choose from as well. First round draft pick Jack Van Volsen said he was excited to get his first taste of junior hockey
The Petes first pick in the 2022 entry draft was not only excited to be at camp but he’s also looking forward to showing the coaches what he can bring to this year’s team.
Peterborough has five pre-season games before kicking off their regular season at home against Erie on September 29th.
