
Queen Elizabeth’s name was attached to countless Canadian structures and institutions during her 70-year reign but don’t include Queen Elizabeth Public School in Peterborough on that list.
According to principal Drew Beaton, the school, which opened in 1938 and now has 225 students, was actually named in honour of Queen Elizabeth, the late queen’s mother. However, he notes that hasn’t stopped people from reaching out to the school since the queen’s passing.
Audio PlayerWhile the school’s Canadian flag is at half-mast, Beaton says nothing special is planned on a large scale. Still, he adds, as “a teaching moment,” a learning opportunity has presented itself.
