Trent University is going to honouring the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Several in-person events are planned for Friday, as well as a suite of online learning tools.
Dr. Dawn Lavell-Harvard, director, First Peoples House of Learning says ‘through ceremony and conversation, we can learn more about our shared history, and work together for a more equitable future.’
Events open to the public include:
· Truth Before Reconciliation: Indian Residential and Day School Histories, a talk by Dr. Jackson Pind, assistant professor in the Chanie Wenjack School for Indigenous Studies, First Peoples Gathering Space, Enwayaang at 3:00 p.m. and streamed via Zoom.
· “None of that Witchcraft Dancing” reading and talk by residential school survivor and Elder Shirley Ida Williams and Returning Home film screening, in Nozhem First Peoples Performance Space, 7:00 p.m.
In advance of National Day of Truth & Reconciliation, orange shirts designed by Ojibwe artist Miskomin Manidoomin (Sabrina Fontaine) are being sold for $30 and are available for purchase from the Trent Central Student Association and the Trent Durham Student Association offices.
