Street art in downtown Peterborough has become a lot more prominent with the addition of two large murals to the urban streetscape.
Welcome To The Boro, designed and painted by Katie Irwin and measuring 105 square feet, has been added to the south facing wall of the Village of Thai restaurant at George and Sherbrooke streets.
The second art installation, done by Julie McMillan, is a monarch butterfly-themed mural has repurposed a pillar located near the Peterborough Square Courtyard and the main entrance to Market Hall.
“Street art plays a vital role in nurturing safe and welcoming spaces by connecting people to public space while magnifying the profile of our local arts community,” enthuses Peterborough DBIA executive director Terry Guiel.
The murals were funded through the federal government’s Tourism Relief Fund.
