Otonabee-South Monaghan deputy mayor Bonnie Clark was sworn in December 1st as Peterborough County’s 126th warden.
The lone county councillor to seek the position after it became vacant upon J. Murray Jones retirement from politics, Clark is just the third female to hold the position. She took the oath in the county council chambers as several family members, her husband Ivan among them, watched on proudly.
In her remarks, Warden Clark referenced the make-up of the new county council, saying returning councillors bring “wisdom, experience and dedication” to the table while new councillors bring “fresh ideas, optimism and excitement.”
“All of you are here for the right reasons and we are ready to roll up our sleeves and work,” added Clark, identifying working collaboratively with the City, First Nations and upper levels of government as a priority.
Of the sixteen members of county council, eight are returning while eight are new.
