An idea to put some tiny homes on the property of the former United Canadian Malt plant has been rejected by Peterborough city council.
Councillor Alex Bierk brought a proposal forward at Monday’s meeting and while it got support from Joy Lachica and Matt Crowley, it lost by a vote of 8-3.
While that approach was defeated, a motion brought up later in the night by Mayor Jeff Leal to work with Peterborough Action for Tiny Homes, or PATH, to develop a new tiny home plan by February was approved.
The plan would include the city reviewing all possible locations that might work and developing the ability to provide mental health, addiction and employment services to those seeking the support.
Leal did say tiny homes must be part of the solution.
