The death of an OPP officer in Haldimand County has shook the local policing community.
Peterborough Police released a statement on Twitter, saying it was sad to hear the tragic news.
Constable Edward Sanchuk says 28-year-old Constable Greg Pierzchala was fatally shot while responding to a vehicle in a ditch west of Hagersville and died in hospital a short time later.
OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique says Pierzchala had been on the force for just over a year, and was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford tweeted that Pierzchala was killed “while honouring his oath to protect his province” and represents the best of us.
Two suspects, a 25-year-old male and a 30-year-old female, were arrested after witnesses at the scene provided information to police.
