With all due respect to Trooper, The Rob Phillips Trio has been here for a long time as well as a good time.
On March 9th, the jazz and blues combo will perform its 500th Thursday evening show at the Black Horse Pub on George Street – quite a milestone by any standard. Joining keyboardist Phillips will be bassist Dennis Pendrith and drummer Curtis Cronkwright, with singer Carling Stephen up front.
Phillips notes the trio made its first Black Horse appearance in 2013 after he convinced then owner Ray Kapoor to give them a shot.
Phillips says the regular Thursday night gig remains his happy place, crediting Black Horse owner Desmond Vandenberg for his commitment to presenting live music.
While acknowledging that the pandemic saw a lot of local clubs “take a hit,” Phillips was confident live performances would return in a big way.
