The Chief of Peterborough County-City Paramedics is speaking out amidst a rising trend of violence.
Randy Mellow says violence against paramedics is an ongoing reality that must stop. Physical violence most frequently includes pushing, punching, scratching, kicking, slapping, biting, or the use of weapons. Sources of violence include patients, family/friend, bystanders, and colleagues.
In 2014, in a study of Canadian paramedics, 75% of paramedics reported experiencing violence, with 74% reporting multiple forms of violence.
Officials are asking you to help out. If you see any type of violence against our paramedics you’re urged to report it.
Over the weekend, a paramedic and police officer were assaulted in a local incident, resulting in the arrest of a 23-year-old man.
