Spring is in the air and nowhere will that more evident come May 9th when the Peterborough Men’s Senior Slo-Pitch League returns to Kinsmen Park for its 32nd season.
Taking to the ball diamond on Tuesday and Thursday mornings into September, the league is for players of any calibre aged 55 and up.
League president Sean Traviss, who is entering his 8th year, says that while the league keeps standings and bragging rights are on the line come the playoffs, it’s really a social twice-a-week social gathering that happens to have bats, gloves and balls in the mix.
Traviss says to keep everyone safe, the league has rules in place that lessen the chance of injuries, including the requirement that batting helmets be worn at all times.
Traviss admits it is a challenge to maintain consistent player numbers year to year.
The cost to play is $120. Once registered, players will be placed on a team with a jersey and ball cap provided. Teams, notes Traviss, are formed with parity well in mind. To register for the league, or learn more information, visit http://peterboroughsrslopitch.org.
