The Peterborough Petes announced that $20,560.29 raised during their World Kidney Day fundraising campaign and game night on March 9th, 2023.All funds raised were in support of the PRHC’s delivery of lifesaving dialysis treatment. The game was played in honor of Petes Associate Coach, Andrew Verner, who was diagnosed with glomerulonephritis in 1999 and received a kidney transplant exactly two years prior to the fundraising event on March 9th, 2021.
Prior to the game, Verner, his wife Allison, who is an organ donor, and Dr. Vincent Cheung participated in a ceremonial puck drop.
Verner says that the money raised will play a big part in helping people deal with the expenses associated with dialysis.
The funds were raised through a silent auction at the game featuring signed NHL memorabilia, a donation page for Verner set up by the PRHC Foundation, and a generous $3,000 donation from Lynda Johnson and the Petes Booster Club.
