The Way of the Cross will be held Good Friday, with the annual procession re-creating the Stations of the Cross making its way across the city.
Starting at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Peter-in-Chains on Reid Street, the procession will make its way east along Hunter Street to Immaculate Conception Church on Rogers Street, arriving there at about 1 p.m. where the final stations will be re-enacted on the church’s steps.
Julia Holmquist, co-director of the procession with Tom Wigglesworth, says event is an important reminder of the day’s significance in the lead-up to Easter Sunday. She adds young people are again very much involved in the procession.
Reflecting on her participation in the procession as a youth, Holmquist says the experience brought home for her the true significance of Jesus’ sacrifice.
Holmquist notes the script has been adapted to encourage wider public participation in the procession.
