Spoken word artist Ziysah von Bieberstein has been named Peterborough’s second Poet Laureate.
Serving in that role until September 2024, von Bieberstein will create and present four new works for various official civic occasions as well as undertake a legacy project and a program of special events and activities promoting literacy, poetry, local arts, culture and community identity.
Von Bieberstein says even more thrilling than being named Poet Laureate is the fact the City has adopted a Poet Laureate Program.
Â
On a personal level, von Bieberstein expects her time as Poet Laureate will reveal much about her future direction in terms of doing poetry.
Von Bieberstein will present the first of her four new works at the April 24th meeting of city council.
Administered by the Electric City Culture Council, the Poet Laureate Program was established by the City to recognize the excellence and outstanding achievements of local professional poets as well and as enhance civic identity.
