The legend of Bigfoot can be traced back to pre-1800s, but it wasn’t until the 1950s that it gained worldwide attention. A journalist, responding to a reader’s letter about loggers discovering large footprints in California, suggested that it might be a relative of the Abominable Snowman of the Himalayas, and the story took off. Today, Bigfoot remains a popular cultural icon and has even earned its own holiday – Sasquatch Awareness Day on October 20th.
One of my friends is a huge Bigfoot enthusiast. She loves to go on hikes and camping trips in search of the elusive creature, and she swears that Bigfoot has stolen her beer and jerky on more than one occasion. She’s a true believer.
