Peterborough Petes Associate Coach Andrew Verner went public with his story this year, in hopes of raising money and awareness on World Kidney Day.
Verner, who was diagnosed with glomerulonephritis in 1999 and had a kidney transplant two years ago, raised $16,000 for the cause with all funds going towards the purpose of equipment used in the lifesaving delivery of dialysis treatment at Peterborough Regional Health Centre.
Money was raised through a donation page that was set up through the PRHC Foundation and from a silent auction that ran during a Petes game that recognized Verner earlier this year.
The former Petes goalie received his new kidney on March 9th, 2021 through the Paired Kidney Donation Program. Three days later his wife Allison donated her kidney to save another life.
