To mark Canadian Environment Week, Hydro One and the City of Peterborough collaborated with volunteers at Ashburnham Memorial Park yesterday to participate in a tree planting initiative.
Over 500 trees were planted and distributed to help revive the urban canopy.
This community partnership endeavor takes place as the city commemorates the one-year anniversary of the destructive derecho, which resulted in the loss of numerous trees in parks and boulevards throughout the region, making it one of the most severely affected areas in Ontario.
Councillor Gary Baldwin was in attendance to help out with the planting.
Jenn McCallum is with the Ashburnham Memorial Stewarship Group, who are big community leaders when it comes to improving our environmental footprint, and says this project is an important step.
Funding for the project is being provided by Hydro One and Executive Vice President, Operations and Customer Experience, Teri French, says the company is very proud to be involved in this type of initiative.
In 2021, Hydro One forged partnerships with the communities of Peterborough, Lakefield, and Norwood and the company remains committed to revitalizing the lives of residents and providing crucial support to local initiatives and organizations in these areas.
