The Peterborough Century 21 Lakers raised their championship banner last night, to celebrate their 2022 Mann Cup victory. However, their celebration was dampened by a 14-13 loss to the visiting Brampton Excelsiors.
Brampton took an early 3-0 lead, but the Lakers fought back with three quick goals in just over a minute span.
Tied at three, the Excelsiors would respond with three quick goals of their own, including two in the final 12 seconds of the period, giving them a 6-3 lead after 20 minutes.
In the second period, Brampton extended their lead to 10-4, but the Lakers closed the gap to 10-6 at the break, thanks to a pair of goals from Holden Cattoni in the final 1:48 of the period.
Despite a comeback attempt late in the third, the Lakers fell short, losing their first game of the season.
The Lakers have a busy week coming up. On Sunday, they’re in Cobourg to face the Kodiaks, and then on Tuesday they visit Six Nations to battle the Chiefs, before returning home on Thursday to host the Kodiaks.
