The provision of millions of dollars over the next three years to help Peterborough and the City of Kawartha Lakes meet new housing targets is being heralded by the Peterborough and the Kawarthas Home Builders’ Association.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford recently announced the $1.2 billion Build Faster Fund, with up to $400 million annually over the next three years for municipalities on track to reach, or exceed, new 2031 housing targets. In Peterborough, that target is 4,700 new homes by 2031 while the City of Kawartha Lakes has a target of 6,500 new homes.
The builders’ association has advocated for new housing targets, noting support of municipalities preparing for growth is crucial in addressing present and future housing attainability challenges.
