What’s old is new again at 144 Brock Street as the historic Pig’s Ear Tavern readies to re-open this Friday (September 29th), more than six years after it closed.
New owners Steve Robertson and Ashley Holmes acquired the property back in January and, since then, have overseen some renovations while keeping the look and feel of the pub the same as many remember it. The Trent University alumni are excited to open the doors, with Robertson noting it’s “starting to feel real.”
With the pub’s long connection to Trent University students, that it’s opening in the midst of the university’s annual homecoming and Head of the Trent regatta is a bonus, says Holmes.
Robertson says those who drop by will be thrilled to see that little has changed.
The pub will open to the public at noon Friday with a Trent alumni ticketed event scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. before opening to the public again after that. On Saturday, the pub will open at noon for the full day and evening. A “proper grand opening” will be held at a later date.
Opened in 1865 as the St. Maurice Saloon, The Pig’s Ear – know affectionately as The Piggy – has now had 14 owners.
