After what has been a relatively mild winter, this week’s deep freeze is a wake-up call, but for the city’s most vulnerable, it’s a threat to their wellbeing.
While limiting your time outside is the best way to reduce the risk of frostbite or hypothermia, those are on out streets don’t often have that option readily available. With that in mind, the Trinity Community Centre on Reid Street is open extended hours through Wednesday, from 9 a.m. 7 p.m.
In addition, emergency shelter is available for those experiencing homelessness with temporary alternative accommodation for overnight stays possibly available based on capacity. Individuals in need are asked to Youth Emergency Shelter, 705-748-3851; Brock Mission Men’s Shelter, 705-748-4766; Cameron House Women’s Shelter, 705-748-4766; or Trinity Community Centre, 705-991-5166.
In addition, after-hour service related to emergency shelter is available by calling social services at 705-926-0096.
