Community Futures Peterborough unveiled its innovative Community Advancement Program (CAP) during a special event held today. The program is aimed at injecting $50,000 directly into local initiatives that support businesses, tourism, and entrepreneurship in the region.
The CAP, funded by the Government of Canada through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (Fed Dev Ontario), will provide up to $5,000 to successful applicants, with the goal to boost business attraction, investment, retention, and employment in both the city and county.
Devon Girard, the Executive Director of Community Futures Peterborough, emphasized the importance of supporting projects that create economic stability, growth, and job creation, promoting a diversified and economically sustainable local rural economy.
Mayor Jeff Leal expressed his enthusiasm for the program, highlighting the importance of local businesses and their contribution to a strong community.
Warden Bonnie Mark of Peterborough County echoed Leal’s sentiments, while emphasizing the program’s focus on innovation and job creation.
A selection committee, composed of board members and staff, will evaluate the applications to identify projects aligned with CAP’s goals.
Applications can be submitted through the Community Futures Peterborough website until March 8th.
