The Peterborough Police Service has filed another charge against a 31-year-old man for distributing anti-Semitic flyers in May and June of last year.
In compliance with Canada’s Criminal Code, specific provisions and authorizations are required from the Ministry of Attorney General in order to proceed with charges for hate crimes.
Investigators requested the approval immediately, with this being the first time Peterborough Police Service has been authorized to lay a charge for the willful promotion of hatred.
The accused, who was first arrested in September after a four month investigation, appeared in court yesterday.
