COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT: Peterborough Singers pay homage to the music of Elton John in February

The timeless hit music of one of the most successful pop music composers of the 20th century will be performed next month by the Peterborough Singers.

The choral group presents The Music of Elton John on February 24th, 5 p.m., at Emmanuel United Church,

Founder and conductor Syd Birrell says while the choir is best known for its classical music performances, paying homage to the work of a popular music icon each season isn’t new territory.

The challenge, says Birrell, was deciding what songs from John’s extensive catalogue to perform.

Birrell says concerts featuring the music of more mainstream performers attracts a new audience for the Peterborough Singers.

After the challenge of the COVID years and the subsequent formation of a new marketing plan, Birrell says audiences have returned in a big way, with the first two concerts of this season having sold out.
