The Peterborough Petes surprised a lot of people with a big 3-2 win over the London Knights last Friday, snapping their 9-game losing skid while ending the Knights’ impressive 14-game winning streak.
The Petes have been facing challenges in securing wins since the trade deadline, however, the team managed to defy expectations by not only beating the league’s top team but by doing it on the road in front of over 9,000 Knights fans.
The win also marked a milestone for Head Coach Rob Wilson, who celebrated his 150th OHL victory behind the bench. When asked about the accomplishment, Wilson says he didn’t even realize he’d hit the 150 mark.
Wilson, who joined the Petes during the 2018-19 season after coaching overseas for 15 years in Germany, Italy, and England, says reaching coaching milestones are nice but it’s not something he focuses on.
Although 150 wins as a coach is a great achievement, Wilson is quick to redirect the attention back onto his players.
The Petes are back in action tomorrow night when they host the Oshawa Generals, followed by their annual Pink in the Rink game on Saturday against the Niagara Ice Dogs. The team will close out the weekend with a 1pm matinee in Kingston on Sunday as the kickoff game to the 11th Annual Hockey Day in the OHL festivities.
