Peterborough was abuzz last week after word quickly spread that the Memorial Centre would be booked off this spring for a three-week event.
The event meant that the Laker Classic lacrosse tournament, the Junior A Lakers and the Senior Lakers would not be able to use to the PMC during that time frame. With one pad of the Healthy Planet Arena already scheduled for maintenance during that time frame, it left very little options for those looking to book floor time.
After many within the lacrosse community expressed their frustrations, the city sent out a press release to say the event would no longer be happening, saying “the event that was expected to be held at the PMC during that period is no longer proceeding”, adding that “the City of Peterborough is reaching out to arena users to inform them of the facility availability, including organizers of the Lakers Classic lacrosse tournament”.
The city did not say what the event in question was, only that it will no longer be running.
