While much is made, and rightly so, around electric vehicles’ role in mitigating the effects of climate change, the benefits to public health deserve equal attention.
According to Health Canada, close to 15,000 deaths per year can be attributed to air pollution. In 2020, University of Toronto researchers issued a report that, among other findings, concluded that converting all cars and SUVs in the GTA to electric vehicles would result in 313 fewer deaths annually, with an attached social benefit of $2.4 million. In addition, converting all transport trucks and buses to electric would see even more lives saved each year.
At Peterborough KIA on Lansdowne Street West, owner/operator Paul Seminara says the carmaker continues to be at the forefront of electric vehicle production and sales.
Consumers, says Seminara, are increasingly coming around to the benefits of electric vehicle ownership.
