The Peterborough Petes hosted their annual year-end awards ceremony at The Venue last night, a night filled with celebration and recognition for the team’s achievements over the past season.
The evening began with an inspiring opening speech by Dave Lorentz, President of the Petes Board of Directors. Lorentz then called Mike Oke, General Manager and VP of Operations, to the stage for big announcement: an eight-year contract extension for Head Coach Rob Wilson. Wilson, visibly moved, expressed his gratitude to the gathered crowd before inviting Captain Jonathan Melee to share a few words.
After the speeches, the following awards were presented:
- The Mark Teevens Memorial Award for most assists went to Tommy Purdeller (34 assists). Purdeller also received the Bill Bennett/CKPT Memorial Award for leading scorer (47 points) and the Gary Dalliday Award for community service.
- Brody Partridge received the Ed Redmond Memorial Trophy for excelling in both scholastics and hockey.
- Jonathan Melee was honored with the Outboard Marine Veterans Award for his sportsmanship and ability.
- Carson Cameron was named Rookie of the Year and also received the Ushers Trophy for best defenseman.
- Liam Sztuska was recognized with the Molson Cup for most three-star selections and the Petes Executive Trophy for most valuable player, as voted by teammates.
- Braydon McCallum secured the Ed Rowe Memorial Award for most goals (18 goals) and the Norm Bryan Award for most improved player.
- Cam Gauvreau was presented with the Donnie Marsh Memorial Trophy for the most dedication to the team.
The ceremony also saw the Board of Directors and Alumni Association presenting gifts to graduating and overage players, including Liam Sztuska, Quinn Binnie, Chase Lefebvre, Jonathan Melee, Ryder McIntyre, Tommy Purdeller, and Cam Gauvreau.
