Spring means the dawn of temperate weather and vacation planning for most – but for Indigenous people around Ontario it means the beginning of Pow Wow season.
Over the weekend, Trent University welcomed over 100 spectators and numerous members from First Nations across the region. This was due entirely to the Trent University Native Association (T.U.N.A), a panel of students who prepared the event. PTBOToday spoke with Lorenzo Whetung – the University’s Cultural Advisor and Curve Lake native, to hear his thoughts on the student panel’s success.
Whetung joined spectators for the entirety of the event’s five-hour length. He says he wants more students to engage with cultural programming.
He encourages all students to step out of their comfort zone while Pow Wow season ramps up.
