A former Peterborough Pete is set to return to the Ontario Hockey League next season. Scott Barney, who played four seasons with the Petes, was announced today as the new head coach of the Sudbury Wolves.
Selected 9th overall by the Petes in the 1995 OHL draft, Barney left a lasting mark on the franchise, winning the 1996 OHL Championship in his rookie season and captaining the team during his final year in 1999. His connection to the city extends beyond the rink as well; his wife, Tara Sullivan, is a Peterborough native.
Barney’s coaching career began with the Humboldt Broncos in 2018, where he guided the team through a challenging period following a tragic bus accident that killed 16 members of the organization and injured 13 others. During his tenure with the Broncos, Barney led the team to six straight playoff appearances and two division titles, serving as both head coach and general manager over the past five seasons.
The Wolves are scheduled to visit Peterborough for a game against the Petes on October 10th.
