The Riverview Park and Zoo Fun Run and Walk returns this Saturday (June 29), the proceeds destined to support needed improvements to the zoo’s exhibits.
Registered participants can choose from 1-kilometre or 5-kilometre routes which loop through the zoo grounds and along the Otonabee River. Click here to register for event which starts shortly after 8 a.m. with a yoga warmup.
Riverview Park and Zoo manager and curator Cathy Mitchell provides some history of the event.
Noting Riverview remains the only free admission accredited zoo in Canada, Mitchell says money raised from the Fun Run and Walk helps maintain and improve the now 91-year-old local treasure.
While standards of animal care have changed over the years, Mitchell say area residents’ attachment to Riverview Park and Zoo has been a constant.
All participants in Saturday’s event will receive a medal, with prizes awarded to the top fundraisers.
