The City of Peterborough will remove three dead or dying trees along the perimeter of Bonnerworth Park at Monaghan Road and McDonnel Street.
The decision, made for safety reasons, addresses concerns that the deteriorating trees may pose a risk of harm to the public or nearby property.
The removals on Thursday are part of the City’s annual urban forest management program, which targets trees that have reached the end of their safe life expectancy. This year, the City is also planting approximately 1,000 trees to maintain the urban forest canopy. These efforts include planting to replace trees lost during the derecho in May 2022 and combating the impact of the emerald ash borer.
The tree removals at Bonnerworth Park are not linked to planned upgrades that include expanding the skateboard park, constructing a new bike pump track, adding pickleball courts, and landscaping improvements.
