Peterborough city council may be on a summer break but Save Bonnerworth Park isn’t going anywhere, continuing its pressure for a reversal of the decision that will see 16 asphalted pickleball courts cover the park’s coveted greenspace.
Group member Richard Scott says an online petition that has garnered close to 5,000 signatures and counting remains active.
Scott says members of the group have had conversations with individual councillors about the decision to proceed with the park’s redevelopment and the process leading to that decision.
As for a recent Chamber proposal that the former Baskin-Robbins property in downtown Peterborough be given consideration as an alternative site for the courts, Scott says it’s well worth exploring.
Scott adds the lack of “a wholesome examination’ of alternatives has eliminated other potential pickleball court sites, including the Baskin-Robbins property.
