Affordable housing will again be a big topic of conversation at City Hall.
Council will review a proposed zoning amendment for 78 and 82 Lansdowne Street West on Monday, aimed at facilitating the development of a 41-unit, five-storey apartment building on the site. The project seeks to add 41 affordable home-ownership units to Peterborough’s housing stock.
The properties, located between Lock Street and Edwards Street, currently feature two single-detached dwellings that will be demolished to make way for the new development. The area is primarily residential, with surrounding single-family homes and low-rise apartment buildings, and commercial establishments further east along Lansdowne Street West.
Staff say the proposed apartment building represents a significant addition to the City’s affordable housing efforts, aiming to meet the growing demand for homeownership opportunities in Peterborough. If approved, the project will contribute to the City’s broader strategy to increase affordable housing availability.
Council’s decision on the zoning amendment will determine whether the project can proceed as planned, potentially reshaping the residential landscape of Lansdowne Street West.
General Committee meets at 6:00 p.m.
