The Century 21 Lakers suddenly find themselves on the brink of elimination from the Major Series Lacrosse finals after an 8-5 loss in Game 5 Sunday night at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.
The Lakers had a 2-0 series lead but the Chiefs have won the last three, meaning Tuesday’s Game 6 at the Memorial Centre is a must-win for the Lakers or the season will come to an end.
The Lakers started well in Game 5, leading 3-1 in the first period. The Chiefs turned it around and led 6-4 after the second, and the Lakers couldn’t catch up.
Rob Hellyer led Peterborough with a hat trick and one assist. Travis Longboat got the hat trick for Six Nations. Shots are not kept at the ILA but the Lakers could not have asked for more from Landon Kells and their defence. Doug Jamieson got the win in goal.
Tickets for Game 6 are on sale now at the Memorial Centre box office.
If necessary, Game 7 will be Thursday night back at the ILA.
