The first master of Trent University’s Otonabee College is being remembered as ‘a renaissance man’ who distinguished himself in several academic fields.
Dr. Robert Carter died August 24th at age 86.
Upon moving with his family to Peterborough in 1973, Dr. Carter began a 37-year teaching career with Trent’s philosophy department, in 1987 receiving the Symons Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Distinguished in the fields of philosophy, religion, ethics and education, Dr. Carter wrote hundreds of articles, delivered lectures around the world and published 12 books.
Away from the classroom, Dr. Carter was a poet, chef, model railroader and a photographer. A singer and trumpet player, he played with several bands, including The Marenger Big Band and the Peterborough New Horizons Band.
A Celebration of Life for Dr. Carter will be held October 5th, 1 to 3 p.m., at the Ashburnham Funeral Home. Donations can be made to PRHC, the Peterborough Humane Society or Kawartha Food Share.
