A 60-year-old cyclist sustained life-threatening injuries in a hit-and-run collision involving a commercial vehicle on Highway 35 near Wrenhaven Road.
According to the City of Kawartha Lakes Ontario Provincial Police, the incident occurred around 11:00 a.m. Saturday.
The commercial vehicle involved in the collision failed to remain at the scene. A passerby discovered the injured cyclist and promptly contacted authorities. Emergency services, including the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario and Emergency Medical Services, arrived on the scene. The cyclist was airlifted to a hospital by ORNGE for urgent treatment.
As a result of the investigation, 35-year-old Christopher Craig of Fenelon Falls was arrested and charged with:
-Failing to stop at an accident resulting in bodily harm
-Failing to leave one meter while passing a bicycle
Craig was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
The collision led to the temporary closure of Highway 35 and Wrenhaven Road for several hours.
