The Peterborough Police Service and Ontario Fire Marshal are investigating a fatal fire that occurred in the city’s downtown.
At approximately 3:40 p.m. Tuesday, a police officer on general patrol was flagged down and alerted to a residential fire at the intersection of Rubidge Street and Townsend Street.
Peterborough Fire Services found a 43-year-old woman inside the apartment, but despite life-saving efforts from fire and EMS crews, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing, and officials will remain at the scene today.
