Community Futures Peterborough has selected 21 entrepreneurs for the Starter Company Plus program.
Upon successful completion, participants will receive grants of up to $5,000 to aid in launching and expanding their businesses.
The Starter Company Plus program provides new and growing businesses with essential tools and financial support to thrive. Through a six-week program, participants will receive hands-on training and expert mentorship, gaining skills that strengthen business foundations and promote local job creation.
“The Starter Company Plus program is vital for aspiring entrepreneurs,” said Dave Smith, MPP for Peterborough-Kawartha. “Offering training, mentoring, and guidance, along with grants, ensures they have the support to expand their businesses and turn their ventures into successful enterprises.”
The selected businesses reflect the diversity and innovation in the region. Among them are Davis Orchards, a local orchard in Douro-Dummer; Hanoi House, a Vietnamese restaurant in Peterborough; and Love you, Mean it. Ltd., a fashion business in the City of Peterborough. These entrepreneurs, from across Peterborough and surrounding areas, will attend classroom-style sessions on branding, financial management, and more over the next six weeks.
“Over the next six weeks, this talented group of entrepreneurs will receive expert advice,” said Devon Girard, Executive Director of Community Futures Peterborough. “This revamped program has been designed to support these entrepreneurs in successfully starting and growing their businesses.”
Community Futures Peterborough led several events during Small Business Week, including the launch of a satellite office in Lakefield, the relaunch of the Business Advisory Centre’s Small Business Toolkit, and the Modern Entrepreneur Experience Day featuring workshops on AI, creative business strategies, and navigating city services.
