The City of Peterborough has announced that construction on Bonnerworth Park will begin soon.
Officials say the revitalization, which includes an expanded skateboard park, a new bike pump track, and additional pickleball courts, is set to begin in the coming weeks, with the project expected to be completed by fall 2025.
Preliminary preparations began this week, with crews fencing off the construction area and removing the clay from the ball diamonds for use at other city locations. Additionally, three unhealthy trees unrelated to the project will be removed from the park this week.
The updated park will feature approximately 220 new trees, preserving 63% of the space as green area. The baseball fields and current tennis courts will be removed, with the City planning to upgrade other ball diamonds and relocate tennis facilities to Knights of Columbus Park as part of broader recreational improvements.
City Council has allocated $4.4 million over 2024 and 2025 for the project. For more details, including site plans, residents can visit peterborough.ca/Bonnerworth.
