The Ontario government is set to improve emergency healthcare in Kawartha Lakes with a major expansion and renovation of the emergency department at Ross Memorial Hospital. The upgrade aims to enhance access to timely, high-quality care for residents in the area.
“Our government is addressing demand for emergency care in the Kawartha Lakes region to connect more Ontarians to timely and convenient health care options, close to home,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. The expansion will help ensure people in the community continue to receive necessary care where they need it, she added.
The project includes plans for a new mental health emergency services unit to improve patient safety and care for mental health patients. Additionally, a new trauma room with advanced infection control measures will provide emergency department staff with enhanced space for urgent, lifesaving treatments.
Planning and design work is underway, with the construction schedule to be finalized once future stages are completed and the project is tendered.
“This investment in the Ross Memorial Emergency Department will provide much-needed support to enhance trauma services and mental health care for our community,” said Laurie Scott, MPP for Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock.
